this past month has been historical for public education and the state of california. The occupy movement taking place at Cal and Davis is the largest student movement since the third world liberation movement fighting for ethnic studies in the 1960's. I've been going out to strikes and protests at Davis and in SF, I stand in solidarity with the occupy movement.

Last Friday, UCD students occupying davis were pepper-sprayed at point blank by the police. Today, over thousands of students and folks from cal and oakland stood in solidarity with us. The rally was insane and I was proud to see UCD students getting political but it was pretty scary of where the focus was going. We were ruthless to Chancellor Katehi, and although she was the one who ordered the police onto campus- I give her props for standing in a crowd of thousands of students who held up signs of hate with her name on it. She stood as students chanted "resign", and boo-ed and harassed her down the bike path of UC Davis. She is a puppet to the UC regents - she could do a lot more for this campus and i hope she is able to see that we are serious. Getting her resign will get us - the 99%, one step closer to the UC regents and showing them that our public education shouldn't be fucked with. But then there's also the question of what happens after katehi leaves? The UC Regents will appoint someone new, someone who can better withstand the resistance of the people/students. See how fucked the system is? The 1% just so happen to be on the UC Regents board, and this public education? The education that symbolizes the "American Dream" that my parent's worked so hard to put me through, is just one large for-profit business for them. I ain't angry that the 1% are rich, I'm angry that they control our government and they control my public education with nothing but greed on their minds. We are all the 99%, it's time to wake up and use your voice. This movement will affect us all. If you can't occupy, close down all your major banks (open a credit union) and stand in solidarity with the occupy movement. Occupy everything.

i turned 21 and now i'm ready to play with the big kids. i wanted this day to come so badly i really couldn't wait. I tried to buy alcohol in high school, I snuck into clubs, i used my charm to get into korean bars, i went to vegas undercover 21 style. But now that i'm 21 - i'm sad. I lay in my full size bed in davis and a box of oreos next to me and wonder if i did enough. With comfort food to cure my fear i'm watching clips of OFWGKTA raging and wonder if I could've been famous at 18. I think about the times i ran on cross country, played for the tennis team or swam for the swim team - my prime time is over. "wait til you hit 30" my sister said laughing at my adolescent comment. this burger place is the place, i still drool looking at these photos. opens late night for the philly bar hoppers crawling out the streets lookin for grub. It was super hot that day, I don't even know how i managed the humid wearing a long sleeve button down - but i did! The more days i spent and think about philly the more i really miss that place. Everything i do seems to have an east coast edge now. If i see an internship or program that is located in the east coast (philly, pittsburgh, new jersey, new york, boston) I'm more inclined to apply to that one rather then say an internship at berkeley or california in general. Moving to Davis was enough of a throw off, if i ever do leave I would have to take on the east coast head high and by the throat.

I've always intensified and exaggerated summer. But who am I kidding, I was a pretty sheltered child growing up - my summer consisted of staying home or begging my parents to let me out to the movies once a week with my friends (secretly hanging out with my boyfriend at the time). Even when i hit college i got a few nights here and there of epic drunk nights. but this summer was completely different. I realized that when i go to a show, or game now THATS when i get that east coast vibe - and i mean the real one. places like these is when the true characteristics and culture of the city comes out. alls i can say is philly folks are rowdy and will go to their grave loving their teams.

when someone says "east coast" i think new york city, boston, florida but everyone is forgetting that little sunny city with almost perfect population density - philadelphia. I'm finally getting the chance to stay more then five days in this gorgeous city. I think i have truly fallen in love with this place - they have so much culture here. Did you know? For every building that is built, they must add a piece of artwork to the public (this includes murals, sculptures etc). In the past week, I've visited Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, Love Park, the steps where Rocky ran up (to the philadelphia museum of art), contributed in center city sips on wednesdays and have stepped in almost all of philly's neighborhoods: rittenhouse, midtown village, south philly, art musuem, northern liberties, and italian market. I would say guyfriend has done a very good job showing me the ropes. I still have about a week and a half left to start learning the east coast attitude.

#real talk - transferring/moving out

transferring to a 4-year institution - one word: fun. Very, very entertaining. What's entertaining? The million type of people you will meet all in one sitting - funny, mean, happy, sad, caring, rude, athletic, progressive, nonchalent, alcoholics, dirty, - you get the idea. Transferring ain't easy peezy lemonsqueezy. Lets start with schoolwork - intense readings, papers and leaving it until the last day is a norm (don't do this your first quarter). You won't get the luxury freshmen have of slacking off their first quarter because well... they have 3 years to make up for it, we transfers? you don't really have that much time. 2 years is all you got to make your mark, do you damage, and be on with life. Which brings me to another point. after you transfer it really is ride or die - all in or nothing at all. Take advantage of everything, these two glorious years are the only years you will live on government funds to live on your own. It's all in or nothing at all. Commit yourself to things you're passionate about and give it your all - college life isn't always about school and who got the most fucked up last night. Remember: two years is all you got. meet as many people, as many internships, as many nights that mark your life as you can. Do something out of your comfort zone. Trust me - it feels a lot better in the long run. Initiative - be okay with making the first move. When you're transferring out and living on your own, its so incredibly easy to kick it with someone so take advantage of the close proximity you have with folks in your town. p.s you might end up hating your rommates or loving your rommates - don't hold things inside friendship is friendship but apartment bizness is.. bizzzznes. Your first year transferring may be the best experience or the worst experience - but above all - it's so important to be prepared for the loadwork you will be doing - and know your plans.

ahh i went back to the east coast! i don't know why i say east coast, when i should be saying i went back to philly! I don't have much photos - or actually i don't have any photos except this one of my plane sitting on top of the clouds. i spent about four days and three nights with guyfriend in philly and absolutely loved it. It really is an adorable city (granted the whole city isn't "city-like" he just happens to live in the heart of the city). If anyone plans on visiting philly ONE of these days or happens to find a cheap deal to the east coast and lands themselves in philly, i'm leaving a list of great places i dined at. My flight home was a bit dreadful though, out of all the days there could be a lightening storm there is one (that lasts for only that day) on my layover in texas. My flight got delayed about four hours, I didn't get land home until 3:35 A.M (when i was supposed to land at 1145! =x thank god for teresa, she called me back at 5 and said she'd come save me from the aiport! whoooo. i didn't really get home until around 7 A.M though. and then class at 9 A.M.

post-midterm week - happy birthday virginia

last week was by far the most stressful week at Davis. I had two midterms and three essays due (okay, i guess it's not THAT crazy but hey, i was a bit emo so my week was intensified). I anticipated post-midterm, which was? CUDDLEFEST :D - intoxicating my liver for 3 days... mixed with spam, rice and eggs for dinner, breakfast, dinner then waking up with a fatass stomach ache. I swear, i'm never eating spam AGAIN! And then going on a cleaning rampage as i mopped, vacuumed, washed all the dishes and the kitchen counter for my apartment. But hey in the mist of my chaotic mid-terms week was VIRGINIA'S BIRTHDAY. She is now 2-1 and legal :] I promise i'll make up your birthday this weekend with something special.

i've been on such a bloggin hiatus for two reasons. one, my camera ran out of batteries and i hate low quality photos! and two, i've been swamped with midterms. It's like studying for the finals over here!!! I seem to always let things like school, and other related subjects get in the way of the leisure hobbies i like to do! time management has been an ongoing battle ever since i signed up to be class officer in high school. sigh. but nonetheless, i'll never be too busy for hello kitty. I've been gaga-ing over the Sanrio 50th anniversary tour, and when it came to SF. It was cloudy, wet, rainy, and i was behind a good 150 people in line. After an hour, the line went no where. Then i realized they were going to Sactown! perfeccctt!!!!! I even won a 10 dollar target giftcard (that's going towards my bubble umbrella).

My first college football game; the UCB vs. UCLA homecoming game was a glorious defeat of 35-7. It was a complete weekend hanging out with my family at the game, zachary's and ici's afterwards, staying with Jeff Dam and coming home to my home in UC Davis with 2 Berkeley shirts, and 1 tank (along with 3 american apparel nailpolish, and a UO keyhook for my room). Feeling like a traitor, I spent all of monday and tuesday asking my friends if there was a larger store that sold Davis gear with female sizes available -_____- I do not have a college-identity crisis i swear !

I'm having a on-off relationship with this blog, and a bit of difficulty time managing myself. Instead i find myself wasting time gaga-ing about gossip girl, obnoxiously requoting how i met your mother lines, stressing myself out by thinking i have a lot of reading and being a stubborn ladyfriend. And in pass time.. I do a whole lot of thinking. But the good news is, i'm working out! Getting leeean and fit (hopefully). Project decorate-your-room has been a slow process but I want to post a sneak prev real soon ;) Most importantly, project stay-committed is in play, and following through is my goal.

i've been having dreams about zombies lately. The first dream, the epidemic has just started, i clearly saw the world turn into blood-human flesh hungry zombies and me? I was running for my life. The second dream, the epidemic has started and i was already living in a world full of zombies. As the sun set, I was somehow ferociously ready for these zombies. I remember hitting one across the face with a pan. Yes, I dream of zombies. Can zombies be a double-meaning to college? Or i've been reading the zombie survival guide off my sister's shelf alittle too much.

College has been wonderful so far. It's a bit scary, I came "home" to a completely furnished room i had furnished a week before. I walked in to an empty apartment with a chihuahua on my roomies bed, and my other roomies boyfriend sitting on her bed(not with the chihuahua though) and I had 3 black bags of clothes, 3 boxes of books, ends and odds, and my bike. Even right now I can't fully accept that this is my new home, UC Davis is the school I'm attending, and THIS IS MY HOME? I was san jose home sick the second i drove off. But, atleast summer isn't over (yet), I still have one more night of relaxing and replaying my adventures and nights of singing justin bieber and "Like i a G6". From adventures with boy to Disneyland, satisfying our sweet tooth, visiting the east coast, to singing 'the club can't handle me' during the nights' Ah summer 2010 has brought me so many memories with my best friends, hk polaroids, club illusions in palo alto, all-nighters with my students, bush-i-do, 'mexican best friend's' bbq, staying at a potential crackbaby's home in NYC, spending restless nights with APALI '10 and most of all this summer has happily taken me off the market with guyfriend. After months of 'hanging out' and holding hands and still declaring that we're just friends, we threw in the gloves and i told myself to admit it, 'we're not just friends'.

oh la la. I can't wait to see what this year has in store for me, and for gossip girl.

east coast diary: New York City

guyfriend starved me(jk!) on our way to NYC from philly so my first meal had to be worth it. And it was! The line was unbearably long (1/4 the line of fry's on black friday), but it was worth it. We went to shake shack on 23rd and madison and got one shackburger, a shack-cago hot dog, a concrete shake, and fries.

we fell into the labor day tourist rage and went shopping. Really, i just wanted to visit uniqlo, and we did. All 2 hours of our 3 hours being stuck in SoHo was spent at uniqlo. I left with an oxford shirt ($19.95), skinny tapered dark denim (39.95 promo 29.95), skinny tapered black denim(39.95 promo 29.95), skinny tapered light gray denim(39.95 promo 29.95) and guyfriend got a lot of shirts

what is that?! It's rice pudding! I've never really tried it before, nor did i ever have a good image of what it tastes like, but at rice to riches in SoHo it's so worth it.

east coast diary: philadelphia day 2

i explored more of Philadelphia the next day! I forgot to mention it was really hot and humid, you won't believe how slow i was walking because it was so humid. yes. I couldn't hang the heat, but, i got used to it! After walking around for blocks and passing 4 philly cheese steak stands, we finally chose a philly cheese steak stand that was rather expensive... $5, it could be cheaper! (we passed on stands that were $3 (indecisive), but when we circled around they closed up).

We brought our food here! At Washington square park. No photos of the philly cheese steak :( This park was really nice, under it are the graves of those who died for the revolutionary war - it gave me a much greater appreciation for my privileges. This monument says everything. Tried to visit independence hall but was already closed, then raced across the street to catch liberty bell but was closed also! booooo

We then visited south lane? or road? I forget. It reminded me much of haight street and had a lot of interesting shops.. Also, a lot of dining places, pubs, and shops that were selling philly shirts - I didn't buy one but i really want one now!! Can you tell it was an indecisive day? We circled around and then back to find a place for dinner, and finally got so hungry we went into the first that interests us. A turkish restaurant. I don't know if it was the indecisve-ness but this day is quite fuzzy - i can't remember anything clearly. I don't think i documented with enough photos. We ended the night with fireworks over the river. next stop..... New York!

east coast diary: philadelphia

i very much enjoyed philadelphia! this city is beautiful, imagine SF, but with no slopes, and somewhat less cramped. I woke up to guyfriend studying on his desk, and patiently waited for him to finish so we can get waffles for breakfast downstairs at bonte. this may be alittle TMI, but i had a canker sore for the first 2 days of my trip and couldn't enjoy food as much as i wanted to, but nonetheless, these waffles were delicious (I would blame the fairly large chunks of sugar) - we choose the blueberry and chocolate.

After guyfriend got out of class later that day, we went to the reading terminal market, they're all locals selling ice cream, smoothies, bread, jerky, to used book stores, and flowers. if anybody has been to Vietnam, it's like the day time saigon market. Here are some photos from there!

What's for dinner? Something home-cooked! And my favorite too! A korean-influenced dinner. Kimchi fried rice - snow peas - chinese sausage - korean bbq. (I made the kimchi fried rice, and Chinese sausage- guyfriend had to help me out a lot) It was my first time cooking kimchi fried rice, but it's probably one of the most simplest to cook.

Instructions to Kimchi fried rice
1. Put oil in the pan
2. Throw in your chopped garlic and chopped onions- stir for about.. 40 seconds
3. Toss in the rice
4. Now toss in the kimchi! (you MUST slice up the kim-chi before you mix it with the rice) - mix it evenly
5. At the end, top it off with a bit of chopped green onions
I think this is all done in about near hi-heat setting.

and viola! kimchi fried rice. (i think i'll make some today for my grandmother and mother)

after having spent a week in the east coast, which, i will share via photos very soon! I forgot how good san jose is to me until i finally reached the airport, the sun's rays coming through(well not today), nice people who take their time, my roomie and her bf picking me up and of course, my bay area appetite, ike's place for sandwiches and bi-rite creamery for ice cream (brown ginger & honey lavender)- mission district, san francisco. I know I've posted about ike's place and bi-right creamery before, but i just got back to the bay and needed this combo again! Mythbuster #1:Ike's place is NOT evicted in sf, i repeat is NOT evicted. They are still running and satisfying my pet stomach. Mythbuster #2: Ike's place has just opened up in Standford, Palo Alto.

45 minute road trip to the alameda

i'm going to slowly document my summer adventures. of course it won't fully speak for my summer but a good part of it. Most of these amazing photos belong to someone else who was with me in almost all of these adventures. My guyfriend really wanted to eat at sushi house in the alameda (next to oakland), and i expected it to be a small hole in the wall restaurant but instead we approached this slightly upscale restaurant deadset on the corner of the street overlooking the ocean. According to yelp, it used to be "super duper small in the center", but moved to the edge of the streets with outdoor dining. the sushi was delish and super fresh. I'm in love with that orange sauce(sriracha + mayo) drenched over the lion king roll. the price is a bit out of my de anza comunity college student's budget, but once in awhile wouldn't hurt. After this i rushed home from the alameda to san jose for work till closing, bummer!

on a random note!
1. My last day of working retail for life is next tuesday!
2. I finally got my hair cut and redyed. i have straight across bangs again, and the white dye is back.
3. I'm leaving for the east coast next wednesday
4. I'm buying the 50mm prime lenses tomorrow :) i've been divorced from my canon dslr for quite sometime due to broken lenses.
5. I will start moving into my new apartment in davis on sept 11, and permanently moving in on the 18th.
6. i've realized i don't like eating bananas whole.

LADY GAGA: MONSTER BALL TOUR

my sister kathy surprised us with lady gaga tickets two days before the show :) what started out as seat tickets on the most top parts of the pavilion so close to the ceiling and so steep it was terrifying.... became floor tickets. I may have broken some rules here and there, but what can i dooo when half my family was on the floor and the other half were far away in seats? of course we had to reunite on the floor level :D After watching lady gaga in concert, i fell in love with her much more. She really is an idol, an idol with her music slowly teaching people to let go of their insecurities and be what they want to be, an idol that is openly supportive of gay equality, as well as trans-genders/sexual. She put on such an amazing show, consider spending some money to go see her in concert. She's amazing and talented. Below are also photos of some outfits i saw.

Her show was so amazingly put together and well-thought. In the middle of the show she said each night of her concert, virgin mobile is donating 25 grand to the LGBT community. And then all of a sudden she picks up the phone and says she's going to call someone in the audience. So it rings on the speakers, and this girl picks up from the seat tickets!!!! She picks up and they have a quick one minute conversation with the girl being given the chance to say how WONDERFUL GAGA is. And then.... Lady Gaga: "Well for the rest of the night, you and all your friends get to be closer to me by getting floor tickets for the rest of the concert. And after the show, I want you and all your friends to come backstage so I can give you a big kiss!"

She would always have exact communication with the audience. It wasn't like she was following a script. People would throw things on stage for her, like a headband, bracelet, or a tank top they made for her. And you know what? She picks up as much stuff as she can and puts it on!!! For 3 songs she wore this white tank top that this girl threw on stage for her. Lady gaga: "I'm getting so many gifts tonight!"

She'd also do autographs to a few lucky individuals that were arms length away from the stage.

There was never one moment you stood there and waited for her in between songs. She had something to keep you entertained every moment. She's quick on her feet.

I recently saw a photo on virginia's tumblr that reminded me about dilemma's i always ran into with that significant other i used to be gun ho in love with. it reminded me of that feeling. you know, the feeling. that bottom-less pit of regret and guilt in your guts. the feeling you get when you let your supposed 'love of your life' slipped right off the tip of your fingers. When you walked away and you know that you could've single handily saved the relationship. Because you know that if you asked him to stay, if you told him you cared he would've stayed. Ever fall back to.. it is what it is, and if it was meant to happen it'll happen? WRONG. NO. if it's meant to happen? fate just doesn't work it's magic. you have to DO SOMETHING. In the past, i've held back a lot, i didn't want to look stupid, feel stupid. I know it was the wrong thing to go back to someone, or continue a relationship, but hey my cousin once told me the heart knows what it wants. If you get this burning feeling in your guts, just got for it. Forget what people think, and just do it. Don't want to looked whipped? Who gives a fuck if you know it'll put a smile on her/his face. If he/she is walking away GO RUN AFTER THEM, GRAB THEIR HAND, HOLD THEM BACK, JUMP UP AND DOWN, GO-OUT-OF-YOUR-WAY, you want to tell them something? just do it. And if your significant other doesn't appreciate your newfound splurge to express yourself fully, then you know you did all you can.
Sometimes, the best thing is to let go (my personal favorite alternative). And though you're filled with regrets and thinking about the 'shoulda, coulda, woulda', it IS the easy way out. So, I'm actually gonna work for this and 10 minutes ago i put a lot of my fears aside and made the biggest decision for a significant other of mines.

Last year, it was only 75cents per ride, but what the hell. Economy is down and a dollar per ride is pretty good! Also dollar hotdogs, cotton candy and pepsi. If you are sqaut outa ideas for a date, just fall back to this, it won't break your bank.

Muddy buddies are homemade!!!! SO EASY to make, yet so good. You should give it a try! They're pretty much chex mix covered with peanutbutter melted in semi-sweet chocolate sprinkled sugar on top. These things are hella good, unique and easy to make so they're good for those summer potlucks if you're low on money.

ingredients
9 c. Chex cereals (corn, rice and/or wheat)
1 c. semi sweet chocolate chips
1/2 c. peanut butter
1/4 c. butter
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar

Pour cereal into large bowl and set aside. Combine chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter in 1 quart microwavable bowl. Microwave on high for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until smooth (stir after 1 minute). Stir in vanilla. Pour chocolate mixture over cereal and stir until all pieces are evenly coated.

Pour cereal mixture into large container (with seal) with powdered sugar. Seal securely. Shake until all pieces are well coated. Spread on wax paper to cool. Store in an airtight container. Makes 9 cups.

I apologiizzzzeee for being so MIA this past month to my friends and family and those who are the least curious of my life via blog. The last quarter of De Anza has been kicking my butt, as well as co-coordinating a graduation ceremony, attempting to keep a 20 hour/week job at Talbots (yes, you heard right. TALBOTS. Hip hop in the park was... UHMAZZING. Uhmazzing, a word i use quite a lot after retiring "dope" for every other cool thing i come by. But this event was ... UHMAZZING. It made up for all those days spiritually draining my childhood at mall jobs (Bath&Body Words, Metro Park, Ann Taylor Loft). From what took me a good hour "thinking" about jumping in a cypher, I didn't realize i needed a push, and a push was what i got as an unknown bboy calls me out. Cyphers, Blue Scholars, Macklemore, emcee battles, and meeting friends who make beats and spits, was a down to earth feel.

After being in hibernation for nearly four months, i went out last friday to play without knowing it'd be my first time getting kicked out of a party (my friend's bday party) all because someone tapped my beer letting it overflow onto the kitchen floor. And that's how the night started. ridiculous little chubby asian girl yelling at all of us. my friends yelling back. me giggling at the whole situation. gut feeling said move on to the next party, everyone at the party said go back inside.. and we went back. and the night ended with my friends helping me home, and my friend's yak in front of my house. the parent's didn't take this so well. So i jet to UC Davis for the weekend for picnic day. outragggeeouusssssss... who'd knew UC Davis folks could party. if you knew what "sungod" was like to UCSD, this is it for UC Davis. All bars are opened up from 7 A.M till late night. Frats are partying throughout their whole sidewalk, downtown Davis is filled with drunk folks, and the whole campus along with all their departments is opened to everyone giving out free ice cream, strawberry plants from the environmental department, body exhibits from the health department etccc. outrageouusss but my heart is still set on transferring to UC Berkeley. which is where i spent my sunday! more specifically College Avenue.
Zachary's pizza - deep fried dishes. I always liked calling it the inside out pizza. This beats chicago pizza in san jose.

thrift stores always make me happier

Ici's ice cream. IS THE BEST ICE CREAM PLACE EVER. i'm sorry but bi-rite in my earlier blogs will have to be second best. I've been to Ici's a couple of times, but i forgot what it tasted like. Although i didn't get my usual Early Grey, i got rose vanilla + orange chocolate chip. UHMAZZING. a food blogger was telling me how bi-rite was known for the more common simple flavors, whereas Ici's were more known for their special flavors. Which is true. Each day, are a new set of flavors offered. the lines are nearly 4 stores down no lie.

WHAT GETTING HYPHY LOOKS LIKE

2. Start slow and low. Obtain hyphy face. people will try to stop you. people will try to dance with you. ignore them.

3. then.... get hyphy with it!

4. keep going.....
